The Scientific Council term of office lasts 4 years (until 1989, the term of office lasted for 3 years). The Council consisted of 19 (at the beginning) to 90 members (in 2010). Since 2011, the number of members has been 50. The procedure of appointment changed throughout the years, from nomination in 1953-1980, to election in 1981-1983, to universality (all professors and then-assistant professors and several elected representatives of adjuncts) in 1984, to election again in 2011. At present, the Council consists of independent academics elected or appointed by the Academy’s Board, with at least 15 without full-time employment at IPPT PAN. Furthermore, the Council consists of representatives of junior academics and doctoral students, as well as the Director and Deputy Director for Science.
