The President of Austria, Alexander Van der Bellen, decorated Professor Michał Kleiber with the Austrian Cross of Honour for Science and Art, 1st Class, for his outstanding scientific achievements and the promotion of scientific cooperation between Poland and Austria. The medal was officially presented by ambassador Werner Almhofer on 12 November 2018 during a reception at the Austrian residence.
The award presentation speeches given emphasized the importance of scientific and student exchange for the European scientific projects and the role of academic and institutional contacts, to the development of which Professor Kleiber contributed significantly as a corresponding member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and vice-president of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts in Salzburg

Prof. Michał Kleiber works at the Department of Information and Computational Science at the IPPT PAN. He is an outstanding scientist in mechanics and information technology. His main scientific and didactic research concentrates on the application of new computer technologies for the use of science, technology and medicine, in particular for modelling, analysis, simulation and visualization of complex phenomena of non-linear thermomechanics. In recent years, Professor Kleiber has also been engaged in the issues of pro-development public policy, particularly the strategies for the development of education, science and innovation capacity of the economy. |
