During the recent XXXVI Convention in Sarbinowo 21-22 March 2015, prof. Zbigniew Kowalewski has been elected Chairman of Polish Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (PTMTS) for the new XXXVII cadence. Moreover prof. Zbigniew Kowalewski and Assoc. Prof. Elżbieta Pieczyska have been awarded the Gold Medals for Merit to PTMTS.

About the PTMTS
Polish Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (PTMTS) was founded in 1958. According to its statutes, the main objective of the Society is promotion and assistance in development of theoretical and applied mechanics as well as its propagation. The domain of interest covers all fields of mechanics. One of the fundamental forms of activity is organization of nation-wide symposia, scientific conferences and scientific meetings as well as courses. Since 1963, PTMTS has been publishing quarterly Journal of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (up to 1996 published in Polish – Mechanika Teoretyczna i Stosowana).
Activity of PTMTS is focused in regional sections: Białystok, Bielsko-Biała, Bydgoszcz, Częstochowa, Gdańsk, Gliwice, Kielce, Koszalin, Kraków, Lublin, Łódź, Opole, Poznań, Rzeszów, Szczecin, Warszawa, Wrocław and Zielona Góra.
