On 11 March 2019 prof. Michał Kleiber became laureate of the Person of the Year 2018 title. The award was given to Professor by the Federation of Regional Unions of Municipalities and Counties of the Republic of Poland - the largest nationwide local government organization forming regional unions of 1000 local self-government units.
The ceremonial gala took place at Collegium Novum of the Jagiellonian University in Cracow.
Receiving the award, prof. Michal Kleiber said that it is “the expression of respect for the people of science”. He also stressed out that „without science, there would be no possibility of having a durable, sustainable development”.
Prof. Michał Kleiber is a researcher at IPPT PAN. He also held the positions of Minister for Science and President of the Polish Academy of Sciences. In 2006 he became adviser to the President of the Republic of Poland on scientific communities – government dialogue. In 2015 he became a European Commission ambassador for New Narrative for Europe. He has been awarded numerous prizes, including the Order of the White Eagle (2016).
